ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an assessment of the size and the characteristics of the Earth observation market, reports on the competition and on international pricing policies and alternatives. At the same time, the paper reports on the different pricing models commonly used in Earth observation and discusses costs of data acquisition versus costs of a project which is based on Earth observation data. The paper extends to the cost of using high resolution data and the corresponding cost/effectiveness compared to alternatives, as may be the case with aerial photography and aerial laser scanning.
