ABSTRACT

In this paper DDA is used as a modelling tool for large span cavern analysis. Gjøvik Olympic Mountain Hall which was built and used for the 1994 Winter Olympic Games at Lillehammer, Norway, is used as a case study The modelling process from discontinuity mapping in the field, through implementation of discontinuities into a numerical model, to evaluation and reporting of the analysis results are presented. In order to increase the applicability for analyzing this kind of problems some improvements are added to the program.
