ABSTRACT

The problem of grapevine phytophagous is being discussed in relation to an integrated control programme in Sicily. Many pests are occasional and, although particularly harmful, they are limited to certain zones and years.

Research carried out in 29 biotopes in Western Sicily have shown that Lobesia botrana (Den. et Schiff.), which is the key phytophagous, causes variable damages.

The population was recorded numerous only in 6 biotopes. Eupoecilia ambiguella (Hb.) is rare but almost always present.

Some biological data on moths are reported in Sicily. They have different behaviour in comparison with other areas of Southern Italy. The f equent spraying of insecticides in many areas, are not justified. For this it is necessary to organize a prevention Service in order to carry out an integrated or at least a guided control that will be able to reduce the spraying.
