ABSTRACT

The large number of papers presented in this session showed that considerable research has being carried out in European countries on such pests of Vitis vinifera, as the grape berry moths, Auchenorrhyncha, the grape phylloxera, Drosophila spp. The application of Integrated Pest Control in vineyards in various European countries indicates clearly that in practice very good production results can be obtained on reducing the use of chemical pesticides. The grape berry moths continue to be major pests. Important work has been done in some areas, which allows the reduction of the number of insecticide applications. More basic knowledge is needed also for a number of other vine major or potential pests. Where the development of Integrated Pest Control has progressed to a desired degree, a large-scale application to demonstrate its value to the growers should be encouraged. It is recommended that the C.E.C. supports such an application.
