ABSTRACT

The accurancy of the sampling methods for estimate Varroa infestation of a colony is evaluated in this research. The infestation of a colony from Varroa mites should be given for the bee population and the brood separately. Because of the variable distribution of Varroa mite within the honeybee colony, three samples of 100 adult bees are needed from three different frames of a single body hive. The method of brushing the bees in an alcohol solution (25%), shaking and sifting them through a suitable screen gives precise results. Three samples each of 200 capped cells from three different frames are needed to estimate Varroa infestation of brood. These cells it’s recommented to be examined in a crossway direction.
