ABSTRACT
Malathion as powder is considered and used in Greece as bee medicine. It is the main chemical for the control of Varroa disease in our country for many years and it is used with great success, in concentration below 1%, applied mainly by hand between frames or over combs.
According to our research, Malathion has not shown any direct or side adverse effect to the honey bees or brood while no residues of it was traced in honey. In addition there is no evidence that mite developed any resistance to Malathion, although it is used for many years (since 1979).
