ABSTRACT

A numerous series of tests have been made to determine the toxicity for the bees and brood of the fluvalinate, a synthetic pyrethroid used in plant -protection for its acaricide and insecticide properties. Trying this product against Varroa Jacobsoni in field conditions and with a dosage of 1.2μg active matter per hive all varroas were dead in the hives after 8 days following the treatement. Other tests are actually taking place either in the laboratory or in the field, including a country-wide experiment on some 100.000 colonies. The results are particularly promising- The fluvalinate seems to be intersting not only for the control of Varroa but at the same time for Braula Coeca Acarapis Woodi and at a lesser extent for Galleria Mellonella larvae.
