ABSTRACT

Now Varroa disease in Greece is present in the whole of the mailand and in most of the islands, Kea, Syros, Seriphos, Kythira, Antikythira are the only islands unifested.

During the first three to four years following the discovery of that serious disease in Greece (1978), and mainly during the period 1981–82 the bee-colonies had been heavily damaged.

Later on and after the use of some acaricides the problem has resticted and now is not so severe.

The main chemical for the control of Varroa disease in our country is Malathion. In Greece this pesticide is applied as dust below 1% a.i. between frames or over the combs.
