ABSTRACT
The paper describes the methods employed in placing backfill in deep level gold mines with narrow, gently dipping, tabular orebodies.
The whole process is covered including aspects of preparation, distribution systems and methods of placement.
The effect of backfilling on current mining practice is examined and some implications for the future are predicted.
