ABSTRACT

Disaster is the reactive insufficiency of action–reaction dynamics. Efforts to increase response capacity can reduce the loss of life and property by making communities more resilient to disasters. The use of MCDA techniques in the mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery stages of disaster-management helps to resolve complex disaster problems. It increases the resilience of society to disasters. For this reason, a comprehensive state-of-the-art literature review is presented on (1) at which stage MCDA techniques are used in solving problems in disaster management, (2) at which stage of disasters these techniques are used more intensively, and (3) what their contributions are to the existing literature. For this purpose, the Web of Science, Scopus, Google Academic, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis, Wiley, Emerald Insight, etc., academic databases were searched using keywords such as “disaster management, MCDA, emergency aid, humanitarian relief”. The review timeline was January 2000–September 2021. In conclusion, this chapter presents a comprehensive literature analysis on MCDA techniques used in disasters and aims to be a guide for future studies in this area.
