ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an automated instantaneous water-quality observing method that is both cost-effective and easy to use by the end-users. The ideology behind this idea is the fact that there is an increasing need to monitor and maintain good water quality in all industries and water bodies, which in turn affects our health and welfare in many ways. Additionally, due to urbanization, peri-urban agriculture is rising which uses urban wastewater as a major source of irrigation, thus posing health hazards to both farmers and consumers. The need to come up with better ways to check water quality regularly involves lesser human intervention and cost-efficient methods. Internet of Things (IoT) delivers simple and elegant solutions to many of the industry needs concerning remote processing and communication. In this work, a time cloud-based continuous water quality observing unit is designed to handle the water quality observation and it reduces the need for human intervention in the entire process. Nowadays, water quality is threatened by untreated industry outlets which result in an oversupply of contaminants. This system can provide continuous water-quality monitoring for various stakeholders and environmentalists to detect whether the water quality is reached by the allowed regulation standards for usage in a certain industry. By analyzing the data uploaded over the Internet into the cloud regularly provides suggestions to improve the water quality, thereby improving the safety and quality of the lifeforms that depend on this water. This system can be integrated with blockchain system to detect the causes and trends of water-quality degradation in different geographical areas.
