ABSTRACT

Health and safety are the key factors for all the industries to ensure wellness of its employees. This become extremely critical when it comes to mining industry, as the workers are exposed to dust, explosions, poisonous gases, accidents, etc. Apart from health, tracking and tracing of people and assets, security of the mines, reactive and proactive disaster management is important. Conventional methods of access management, accessing employee’s health and environmental safety lead to lot of efforts, time-consuming and are not real time. This paper proposes Internet of Things (IoT)–enabled connected framework leveraging the digital technologies for seamless access management, detects intruders and collects, analyzes and acts on health vitals and environmental parameters in real time. This paper also captures the novel design, implementation and deployment of the connected mining framework which helps to realize the real-time use of the framework in mining. With IoT enabled, the framework aids seamless connection with platform services and streams the data for storage, analysis and assessment. This includes a comprehensive dashboard for the admin to continuously monitor, analyze, alert and act based on the health vitals, gas leakages, access violations and access patterns. The framework not only solves safety and security issues but also helps to improve the business process efficiency and leads to better Return-On-Investment.
