ABSTRACT

Seaborne trade keeps a growing path. This positive impact on the Maritime Transport industry is shadowed by the entry of other industry digital players like Amazon and Alibaba. In this context, digitalization is mandatory not just for outperforming but simply for survival. This paper presents the work that the Technical University of Madrid is developing to determine the status of digitalization of the different players in the maritime transport transportation chain to verify the state-of-the-art regarding digitalization of the Maritime Transport sector; find out the possible bottlenecks or barriers to this digitalization and identify possible solutions to sort out these obstacles. The focus of this paper is the development of a survey on Maritime Transportation companies. The main contribution of this paper is the description of the process for creating the tool that will help in the data capture and analysis of the as-is status of digitalization of Maritime Transportation companies in the Iberia Peninsula.
