ABSTRACT

The Amazonian shipbuilding market, despite having some consolidated shipyards, still does not reach its full potential, having thus, their demands not met due to the limitations of the local shipping industry. Corroborating this problem, the objective of this paper is to analyze economic feasibility for the deployment of a ship repair yard in the northern region of Brazil. First, a SWOT analysis was performed aiming to determine the critical points of the cluster implementation based in the diverse field data collected. Finally, the final analysis was performed using the Net Present Value (NPV) method, the comparison parameter of Internal Return Rate (IRR) and the Minimum Rate of Attractiveness (MRA), and being performed for three possible scenarios. It was concluded that the project to implement a ship repair cluster is completely viable based on all the assumptions considered in the methodology of this research for the northern region of Brazil.
