ABSTRACT

This work revisits and updates the literature on ship-wave actions and its hydrodynamic description based on the Boussinesq Equations and more specifically the FUNWAVE model (Fully Nonlinear Model) to study the propagation of those waves in coastal and port regions. For that, classic and current works of literature that complement and advance knowledge in this field are reviewed. Among those stand out the contributions of Nascimento (2007) and Rodrigues (2018). This communication focuses on the classification of wake waves, on the general formulation of the problem and on wake waves effects on the banks of channels or reservoirs. Furthermore, some results on FUNWAVE model validation for wake waves produced by a vessel moving through shallow water are discussed. Finally, the advances, limitations and possibilities of application of the model are explained, as well as the need for its validation with the largest possible number of data, namely from field measurements.
