ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology has ushered in a new age of therapeutic science, intending to improve cancer treatments at success rates. As most researchers utilized nano-based drug delivery system (NDDS), carbon and its allotropes particularly graphene oxide (GO) offer many potential properties: high surface region, large drug loading and holding capacity, simple solubility, and excessive biocompatibility. Moreover, the functionalization of GO plays a crucial role in the development of NDD systems. Graphen’s unique features are stabilized by functionalization, while new properties are introduced or enhanced. Hence, the modified features of surface-modified GO associated with covalent/non-covalent functionalization with polymers and nanocomposites provide not only enhanced novel properties like hydrophobicity, improved adsorption, antibacterial nature, and many more but also reduced toxicity. Therefore, a strong technique for imminent cancer therapy treatment would provide NDD-based applications for chemotherapy, which would significantly improve therapeutic effectiveness, eliminate harmful reactions, and maximize cancer applicant’s clinical results. In this study, we explore the significance of next-generation drug delivery systems linked with nanocomposites and their surface modifications, fabrications, and usefulness, which make them an excellent alternative for anticancer therapies.
