ABSTRACT

This paper is concerned with a Help-Diagnosis System - Intellectual Disabilities (HDS-ID) that allows professionals in therapy to assess the alignment of the trunk of people with intellectual disabilities in hyppotherapy sessions (HTS). The main objective is to provide therapists a tool that:1) allows the therapist to monitor, in real-time, the trunk alignment autonomously, and 2) create support data to guide the therapists in a specific moment, as well to specify a task schedule, according to previous trunk alignment results. The tool was applied to 26 people with ID, aged between 20 and 46 years old in a therapeutic context. The results showed statistically significant individual differences in the alignment of the static trunk in the sagittal plane, between the biped position and the sitting position on the horse.
