ABSTRACT

Characterization of body morphology focuses on the study of the form and shape of individuals and their specific structural features. Portraiture of body composition is a method of breaking down the body into its core components: fat, protein, minerals, and body water. Body form and shape describe body’s individual in a certain moment of time providing insights of overall health condition as well as body performance. Body morphology and composition assessment is used in several areas, from sports to health and is relevant in several age groups, having impact on health status and wellbeing. Considering these two approaches, this research work aims to present the characterization of the body morphology of students from the biomechanics degree of academic years from 2016 to 2020, at the School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic of Leiria, resulting from data of the Anthropometrics course. Thirteen anthropometric measurements were taken from 66 students to determine parameters such as Body Mass Index, Conicity Index, Anthropometric Ratios (waist-to-height, waist-to-hip) and somatotype which will be presented in the study and will be used to perform statistical analysis of correlations and comparisons between genders.
