ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with a brief discussion regarding polymer foams and their developments in various fields. The production process involves new and innovative technologies that make polymer foams to be used in different application areas, including packaging, cushioning, automotive, sound absorption, water purification, and thermal insulation. Blowing agents (BAs) are important reagents in the preparation of polymeric foams. Different BAs produce different gas productions on the matrix generating open- and closed-cell foams with different cell structures and properties. Foamed plastics, biofoams, nanocellular foams, and microcellular foams (MCFs) with different applications are evolving as recent advancements in the field.
