ABSTRACT

The tumours of muscular origin are rare. They can primarily be divided histologically into smooth or skeletal muscle origin tumours, depending on the type of muscle cells. They are supplemented by numerous miscellaneous intramuscular tumours from intramuscular remanent tissues such as intramuscular lipoma and myxoma. However, they are not tumours of muscular origin but involve various muscular compartments. Benign skeletal muscle tumours (e.g. rhabdomyoma) and smooth muscle tumours (e.g. leiomyoma) tend to involve visceral organs. Therefore, we are not going to discuss them in detail. Instead, this chapter aims to overview the muscle tumours predominantly involving axial and appendicular skeleton and their radiological features. The chapter also provides a modal diagnostic pathway to reach the final diagnosis of such tumours.
