ABSTRACT

This research examines the business development strategy of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) affected by Covid-19. This is important to do, considering that pesantren is an educational institution to educate the community, especially the younger generation. Educational activities in pesantren are generally funded by student tuition fees, business operation profits, donations, and endowments(waqf). For example, Baitul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, whose activities are funded by student tuition fees, business operation profits, and endowments. However, the Covid-19 outbreak had a negative impact on the decline in business income for the Baitul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School. This study aims to find solutions in the form of strategies to maintain and develop existing pesantren businesses. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive analysis approach with participatory data collection techniques through interviews, documentation studies and field observations. The results of the study recommend a business development strategy through: (i) Improving bread business infrastructure by raising productive waqf funds. (ii) Improving the Skill of Human Resources for managing the bread business through collaborative training with the bakery company, Morning Bread. (iii) Marketing development through pesantren community networks. (iv) Ownership of business legality in the form of PIRT and Halal Product Certificate.
