Chromosphere

The chromosphere (Greek χρωμα, color) is a gaseous shell atmosphere surrounding the Sun, and more generally stars, with a typical thickness of 2000 km, lying above the SOLAR PHOTOSPHERE and containing mainly hydrogen and helium gas.
