The magnetic canopy is a layer of magnetic field which is directed parallel to the solar surface and located in the low CHROMOSPHERE, overlying a field-free region of the SOLAR PHOTOSPHERE. It has a field strength of the order of 0.01 T and covers a large area fraction of the solar surface
