      ABSTRACT

The anomalous cosmic rays are an ionic component of the cosmic-ray flux which is observed, in the heliosphere, to be significant at energies ranging from 20 MeV to more than 500 MeV. They consist of a number of ion species ranging from hydrogen to beyond neon, but anomalous carbon is significantly underabundant. The highest kinetic energy reported for this component is more than 1.6 GeV
