Cosmic rays consist predominantly of atomic nuclei stripped of their electrons, with a small admixture, of order 1%, of electrons and positrons. Their energies range from a few MeV to more than 1020 eV, but only cosmic rays with energies below a few 10s of GeV are significantly affected by heliospheric processes
