Compact groups are small associations of galaxies in close proximity to one another. Typically, the separations between galaxies are comparable with the sizes of the galaxies themselves. In many cases, the galaxies show signs of tidal distortion, star formation, nuclear activity and other phenomena believed to be induced by gravitational interaction
