Astronomer, born in Hamburg, Germany, director of the Berlin Observatory. He drew attention to a relation among the distances of the planets from the Sun that had been discovered by JOHANN TITIUS. The law is sometimes known as the Titius–Bode law, but usually just as Bode's law. The law starts with the sequence 0, 3, 6, 12, 24…, adds 4 and divides by 10 to obtain 0.4, 0.7, 1.0, 1.6. 2
