Campanella, Tommaso [Giovan Domenico] (1568–1639)

Born in Stilo, Calabria, Italy. A Dominican, he wrote on Telesian philosophy and astrology, and cast flattering horoscopes for the influential. A great admirer of Galileo, in 1622 he published his Apologia pro Galileo (`Defense of Galileo'), defending the Copernican system and the separate paths of scripture and nature to knowledge of the Creator
