Science fiction writer and space visionary, born in Minehead, Somerset, England. Worked during the second World War on radar ground controlled approach equipment, became president of the British Interplanetary Society. In 1945 he wrote a paper `Extra-terrestrial relays' which described the principle of satellites in geostationary orbits
