ABSTRACT

The process by which a celestial body increases its mass by aggregating smaller objects which collide with it. Several types of object grow by accretion. In binary stars in which mass transfer is taking place, one member grows at the expense of the other; black holes, including supermassive black holes believed to be present in active galactic nuclei, also increase their mass by accretion
