An optical phenomenon observed at the beginning and end of transits of Venus across the Sun's disk in which the dark silhouette of Venus, having just wholly passed onto the Sun's disk at one limb, or being just about to make contact with the opposite limb, is seen to be `connected' to the limb by a narrow dark `bridge'.
