A mid-sized satellite of Uranus, discovered by William Lassell in 1851. Its diameter is 1160 km and it orbits at a distance of 191 000 km. Of Uranus's five mid-sized satellites, Ariel has the brightest surface, and has been the most geologically active (Miranda excepted)
