A telescope mounting that has axes in the horizontal and vertical planes to enable the telescope to be swivelled in altitude (perpendicular to the horizon) and azimuth (parallel to the horizon). This type of mounting is simpler, cheaper to construct, and less prone to flexure and changes of balance than the equatorial mounting
