ABSTRACT

The star α Tauri, a red giant of spectral type K5III, apparent magnitude 0.87. Its distance is 65 light-years, its parallax 0.050''. The absolute magnitude is −0.6. Aldebaran appears at the eastward corner of the striking triangular open cluster the Hyades, although it is not actually a member of the cluster which is much more distant (about 100 light-years)
