A white-dwarf star of apparent magnitude 3.85, found by the IRAS survey in 1983 to be a very strong emitter of infrared radiation. Following this discovery, extensive studies with large optical telescopes revealed the presence of a disk of dust surrounding the star—possible raw material for the formation of a planetary system
