The star β Cygni, said to represent the eye of the swan in the ancient constellation figure. It is seen as a single star of apparent magnitude about 2.9 with the unaided eye, but with good binoculars or a small telescope it appears as a beautiful double, comprising an orange star (β1 Cyg) of apparent magnitude 3
