ABSTRACT

A long-period comet discovered by Dirk Klinkenberg on 9 December 1743, and independently by Philippe de Chéseaux four days later. It was also known as Klinkenberg's Comet, but it was de Chéseaux who computed its orbit and his name is now more commonly associated with it. This was one of the brightest comets of modern times, reaching an estimated magnitude −7 in February 1744
