ABSTRACT
An emission nebula in the constellation Perseus, position RA 4 h 00.7 m, dec. +36° 37', whose shape resembles the US state of California. The nebula is large (about 2½° by 2/3°), but of low surface brightness. It is illuminated by the star ξ Persei.
