ABSTRACT

A supernova remnant in the constellation Taurus, position RA 05 h 34.5 m, dec. +22° 00'. The supernova of AD 1054 that produced the nebula reached a magnitude of −6, visible in daytime. The nebula was discovered in 1731 by John Bevis and independently in 1758 by Charles Messier, prompting him to start compiling his list of objects that might be confused with comets
