A meteorite having a higher carbon content than other classes of meteorite. Carbonaceous chondrites account for about 3% of all known chondrites. They are classified according to the proportion and size of the chondrules (millimeter-sized grains) they contain. One very rare subclass lacks chondrules, and so are actually achondrites
