ABSTRACT

The introduction of the charge-coupled device (CCD) (figure 1) to the world of amateur astronomy in1990 was nothing short of a revelation. Although small and of low qualitycompared with today's CCDs, the early detectors revolutionized the wayamateur astronomers were able to image the night sky
