ABSTRACT

Climate change is a global phenomenon of altered climatic conditions that could lead to an impact on the environment, ecosystems, and people across the globe. It is now a well-established fact that climate change is an ongoing process, and within the next decades, both ecosystems and people will have to face warmer climates unless universal actions are put in place to combat warming and climate change. Climate change has been predicted to have a significant effect on the stability of the environment/ecosystems and biodiversity in the future, especially those ecosystems that are highly fragile and sensitive. The impacts of climate change on health (of both animals and humans) are immense and can take the form of numerous disasters, which is also reflected by the recent spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. This chapter aims to highlight the emerging issues of climate change in the international arena, ecosystem, and health. This chapter will further enhance understanding of the Paris Climate Agreement (pros and cons), climate change impacts on eco-fragile regions (like the north-western Himalayan region), and how climate change affects the occurrence and distribution of disease patterns. Collaborative and coordinated efforts at the global level are needed for the development of effective strategies that have the potential to mitigate climate change.
