ABSTRACT

It is a well-established fact that there is significant environment and climate change, and if not controlled, this may become a disaster for all humanity. There are noteworthy contributions in the literature on conducting environmental studies related to measuring the impact of climate change. The present study is an endeavour to conduct a bibliometric analysis on published research in this domain. In the SCOPUS database, 21595 documents were found using the keywords “Environment Studies” OR “Environment” OR “Environmental Studies” AND “Climate Change”. Out of these, 15767 articles were finally processed using VOSviewer software. It was found that environmental studies only gained momentum in the last decade. In terms of number of publications, the United States has published most documents, followed by the United Kingdom. The research domain has also attracted numerous funding agencies. It was recommended that future environmental studies pertaining to climate change should consider local adoption, risk assessment, traditional knowledge, small scale fisheries, water chemistry and social determinants of health, because these domains are less explored. There is a need to concentrate on eco-friendly alternatives to hazardous waste and to develop strategies to raise mass awareness.
