ABSTRACT

Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is a specialised technique for the removal of certain invasive skin tumours, usually basal cell carcinomas (BCC) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). MMS has become the standard of care for high-risk non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), but it is not suitable in all cases. It is essential for all those working in dermato-oncology to have a solid understanding of the procedure, along with its advantages and disadvantages, so the most appropriate treatment modality for each patient is selected.
