ABSTRACT

This chapter concisely reviews contemporary indications and techniques for all evidence-based applications of brachytherapy (BT) for skin cancers. Skin BT is performed by a team including qualified a radiation or clinical oncologist, certified medical physicist, radiation therapist and is supported by nursing and administrative colleagues. Covering both surface (contact BT) and interstitial methods (interventional radiotherapy) this chapter not only demonstrates the techniques but elegantly reviews advantages, limits, dose and delivery schedules. Outcomes including control rates, cosmetic outcomes and side effect risks are complemented with a tidy list of relevant references and well-illustrated worked case examples. Our professional societies in Europe, Australasia, the Americas and Asia continue to offer online and hands-on courses to make this most conformal of radiotherapy techniques more widely available to patients globally.
