ABSTRACT

Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most common cancer worldwide. While NMSCs generally have a good prognosis, they still have potential for poor outcomes including local recurrence, nodal metastasis, and distant metastases. Staging systems risk stratify tumours in order to identify those with an increased risk for poor outcomes, guiding clinical management. This chapter reviews the staging systems for cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas, basal cell carcinomas, Merkel cell carcinomas, cutaneous T cell lymphomas, and cutaneous soft tissue sarcomas, and discusses their strengths and weaknesses for prognostication of poor outcomes.
