ABSTRACT

What is PMO? Many biopharma companies, regardless of size, have some sort of management structure that standardizes the way projects are run. The term project management office (PMO), while often used to refer to the people responsible for such standardization, can simply mean the infrastructure to support project execution. In this chapter, we give a detailed definition and description of a PMO. Depending on various business needs, PMOs can be further categorized and we will explore the different types and success criteria for a PMO. We will describe the common services a PMO provides, along with its common members and their accountability within a PMO. Finally, we will give insights into the process of establishing a PMO.
