ABSTRACT

Türkiye is in a very valuable geographical location in every respect, with its lands serving as a bridge between Europe and Asia. Therefore, the emergence of climate diversity and different plant geographies and formations due to its geomorphological structure caused Türkiye to have a very rich and special flora that prevailed all over it. The Aegean Region, which also includes the Aegean coasts of western Anatolia, presents different plant geographies, with its mountains stretching perpendicular to the sea and the combination of the dominant Mediterranean climate with a continental climate. As a result, people living with this rich vegetation have, over the years, chosen to use these herbs that they collected from the wild, both to trade in local markets and to use for food and medicinal purposes. In this chapter, the plant geography, and formation, as well as the local use of some herbs for food and medicinal purposes by local people in the Aegean Region, are discussed.
