ABSTRACT
288Bio-sensors provide the opportunity for in situ and in vivo sensing of a large variety of species, and are thus important in the medical field, for environmental monitoring, and the food and agricultural industries. In this chapter, we provide a brief introduction to and review the recent literature on optical and electrochemical bio-sensors that rely on metals or metal ions as signal generators or signal amplifiers.
