ABSTRACT
Biodegradability has become an essential term in day to day life as growing preference and public awareness to obtain environmentally friendly options are of great interest. As compared to synthetic polymer foams with a non- biodegradable and non-renewable origin cause consequential environmental issues, biodegradable foams provide a better and ecofriendly platform with unique characteristics. The use of biodegradable foams in packaging and single use purposes was a promising step towards green economy and thus the compostable market are expected to witness a paradigm shift in the coming years. Among the different biodegradable foams, starch-based foams got wide attention owing to its low cost, biodegradability and excellent thermal and mechanical properties. Starch based foams, synthesis methods, modified starch foams, cellulose-based foams and various polymer incorporated foams have been discussed here in detail.
